‘Twenty’ reviewed by ifilm

Themed around characters’ personalities, it is time for ‘Twenty’ to go under the spotlight of criticism.

Mr. Soleymani, played by Parviz Parastoui, owns a diner which is sometimes also used for serving memorial ceremonies for dead people. His wife passed away years ago and he lives alone.

Soleymani is a serious, bad-tempered man, who suffers from OCD and a bit of depression. His psychiatrist has advised him to abandon his job as it deals with death as well as the dead and it may intensify his illness. Therefore, he decides to sell his hall and notifies the workers that they will have only 20 days to find new jobs.

The workers in the hall suffer a dire situation and cannot find jobs. Farrokh (Alireza Khamseh) and his wife Fereshteh (Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee), Bijan (Habib Rezaee), Firouzeh (Mahtab Keramati), and Meysam (Mehran Ahmadi), all works there and each try to change Soleymani’s mind on his decision.

Farrokh’s right hand was once hurt during work in the same workplace and as he is homeless; he and his wife sleep in the hall at nights. To avoid being laid off, they have refrained from having a child and his wife works with no wages.

Firouzeh is a widow who lives with her little child in a flat. The landlord’s wife wants her to move out, as she is suspicious of her husband having an affair with Firouzeh.

Bijan sleeps in a bus at nights; one where his friend is an assistant to the driver.

Meysam has left his hometown to live in the capital and loves acting. He has got permission to use the hall’s pick-up truck and he sleeps in it at nights.
